About Brigid
I’ve been where you are.
In my twenties, I gained lots of weight. When I looked in the mirror, I didn’t recognize the person looking back at me. I was so paralyzed by self-criticism that my weight gain became a self-fulfilling prophecy, spinning out of control. The more upset I became with myself for gaining weight, the more I ate to numb my feelings of dissatisfaction.
Then I became desperate, eating too much one day, then working out for hours and barely eating the next. I turned to diet pills and exercise as a form of control and punishment, hoping to recover the fitter body I once enjoyed. I was unhappy and unsurprisingly, the diet pills and extreme exercise got me nowhere. I knew there had to be a better way.
I was determined to find a path to improved health (inside and out) that didn’t feel like punishment. I pursued my certification in personal training and group fitness so that I could first learn to help myself. I was my own first client, and trust me…I was my toughest client. I recognized that my busy mind could talk me into and out of anything. I knew I had to work with my mind to find stillness and to create the space necessary for change to happen. That’s when I found yoga and meditation.
Through my yoga practice, I rekindled a relationship with myself. I learned to love my body and work with my mind to let go of judgment and self-criticism. When all that noise stopped, I was able to make decisions that supported my wellness, rather than continuing the cycle of sabotage and punishment that had become so familiar. Motivated to help others find this same sense of peace, I pursued my Yoga Teacher certification in 2006.
There’s no pill to stop you from eating too much when you’re provoked by stress, or to help you break the habit of eating out of boredom. I’ve fought that battle myself, and my personal experience and professional training have armed me with an arsenal of skills and tactics to help you release these issues for life. My journey has helped me to find happiness and shed 30 pounds of unwanted body fat.
